Hundreds of Red Admiral butterflies were feeding on the ivy in this thick hedge on a balmy October morning: this is just one of them, snapped by a man experimenting with his first digital camera, then a few weeks old and going strong more than eight years later.

Brant Broughton steeple
"The steeple is magnificent, a fine tower rising to a soaring, exhilarating spire. It is set back minimally behind the parapet. The crocketed outline and attendant pinnacles, slightly askew, shoot the eye upwards when seen from directly below. Even the lucarnes are kept small to avoid interrupting the ascent. These structures have as much art and artifice as a Greek column" (Simon Jenkins: "England's Thousand Best Churches").
