Mmm ... Lincolnshire Baron
Lincoln Barons' Charter Trail sculpture by The Museum of Lincolnshire Life in the former Burton Road Barracks, painted by Carolyn Short, representing William de Forz http://www.lincolnbarons.com/the-barons/mmm...-lincolnshire-baron/
It depicts the very best of Lincolnshire food produce - Lincolnshire sausages, potatoes, plum bread, haslet, brassicas, Lincolnshire Poacher cheese, Oslinc ostrich meat and the finest uniquely Lincolnshire delicacy Stuffed Chine.
William de Forz, Earl of Albemarle, was the only baron to side with King John after the king rejected Magna Carta. He fought against Henry III and at one point was excommunicated. He later became loyal and was an ambassador for the king. He died at sea on his way to the crusades in the Holy Land in 1242.

Playground horse
A nostalgic find at The Museum of Lincolnshire Life - a 5 person rocking horse made of cast iron and wood. There used to be one just like this on Bardney playing fields in the 1960s, most likely removed for 'health & safety' reasons.

Water Carrier for Mesopotamia
Lincolnshire is renowned for its agricultural history, but the birth of the 'tank' is less well known. Sir William Tritton, Managing Director of engineering firm William Foster & Co. and Major W.G.Wilson, of the Landships Committee produced the first tracked armoured vehicle 'Little Willie' in 1915. Further developments followed to the shape seen here and widely recognisable as a tank - a name derived from 'water tank' itself derived from 'Water carrier for Mesopotamia', an invented purpose intended to mislead German spies. "Flirt" is a mark IV tank built in Lincoln in 1917 and saw action at the Battle of Cambrai in November 1917. It is on permanent loan to the City of Lincoln from Bovington Tank Museum, it was extensively restored in the mid 1980s and is a popular attraction at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life.
