The Ivy Tavern, 51 Newport, Lincoln
With its own brewhouse, unused by 1923, it was no.27 until 1881-5. I can't see it listed as a pub in 1835 but it is listed in 1841 as a beerhouse and Padley's 1842 map shows a similar building. The Post Office Directory for 1868 has a 'Joy Tavern' at 27 Newport. In March 1923 planning was granted to Hole J & Co. Ltd. (architects Sheppard & Lockton) for additions. The Ivy Tavern was saved from permanent closure and reopened in 2015 after it was bought by a consortium of local people. The Ivy Tavern Ltd was incorporated on 6th May 2015 and dissolved via voluntary strike-off on 31st Oct 2017. In 2020 S & K Taverns applied for the licence. Directory entries include: 1841 John Curtis beer retailer; 1856-1861 Mary Curtis; 1868 Thomas Greasby, Joy Tavern; 1872 William Willington; 1885-1889 Joseph Sharp; 1894 Donald M Gillispie; 1896-1909 William Thompson; 1913 John Thomas Mitchell; 1919 Joshua Sharpe; 1965 just Ivy Tavern.
