The Watering Stone
The large boulder adjoining the bridge near the ford is a 'Greywacke', which arrived in the village by a glacier from Scotland some 20,000 years ago. According to the nearby plaque, the stone used to be located elsewhere in the village and was used by the locals to stand on whilst drawing water from the spring near the (now) village pond before the advent of piped water in the 1950's.
