Penuel Baptist Chapel, Ffordd Glandwr
This is the Christmas Evans Memorial Chapel. Evans, a one-eyed ex-farm labourer (he had lost the other in a brawl) and Baptist exhorter moved to Llangefni from South West Wales in 1791 to take charge of the Baptist cause on Anglesey and to be minister of the town's Cildwrn Chapel. His preaching tours of the island drew huge crowds largely because of his vivid imagery and great acting abilities. Cildwrn Chapel is now used by an Evangelical church and Penuel is the only surviving Baptist chapel in Llangefni. Image

Former Penuel Baptist Chapel
This was a Baptist chapel till a few years ago Image but has since been sold https://media.onthemarket.com/properties/8035925/1243656311/document-0.pdf . In the process it has lost the hedge in front and been given a coat of whitewash. It is now the premises of R. & A. Hughes, funeral directors https://www.johnhughesandson.co.uk/ . The chapel was a memorial to Christmas Evans and 'is in the Classical and Lombardic/Italian style' https://www.anglesey-history.co.uk/places/churches_and_chapels/Capeli%20Cildwrn%20and%20Penuel/index.html . At least the facade is - the rest is in a more vernacular style.
