As in other places in Wales named Llantrisant, the church is dedicated to three saints - in this case Afran, Ieuan and Sannan.

Colourful meadow at Chwaen-newydd
"Chwaen", an element found in the names of a number of farms in the Llantrisant area, means "a windy place". "Newydd", of course, means "new" in contrast with "hen" meaning "old".
