The tomb of Rev. Hugh Williams D.D., Nantanog
Hugh Williams, D.D. (1596-1670), a minor squire and rector of Llantrisant and Llanrhuddlad, Anglesey, was the founder of the Williams Wynne dynasty. The second son of William Williams of Chwaen-wen Isaf, Llantrisant Image he had his seat at Nantanog Image

The bellcote and south door of Llantrisant Old Church
The south door dates from the 15th century and the bell cote from the 17thC.

The nave and chancel of Llantrisant Old Church
The continuous nave and chancel date from the 14thC. The area devoted to the simple altar is very small. The tomb is that of the church's 17thC vicar, Hugh Williams of Nantanog, the founder of the Williams-Wynne dynasty.

Horse mounting block and steps, Llantrisant Old Church
One person who used these mounting steps was William Williams of Nantanog, the son of the rector Hugh Williams who is buried within the church. A slippery lawyer, William the MP for Chester was the Speaker of the House of Commons from 1680 to 1685. A supporter of the Catholic James II he was knighted in 1687 and created First Baronet Williams of Gray's Inn. A willy Welshman, when James was ousted in favour of William and Mary, Wm Williams promptly changed horses and backed the Protestant cause becoming MP for Beaumaris in the next parliament.

A vicar's eye-view of the nave of Llantrisant Old Church
This image is taken from the altar step. The pews in both wings of the church were reserved for the squirearchy and their families, (some of the pews bear the names of the houses of the areas numerous minor gentry). The peasants, both landed and landless, stood at the back.
