Eglwys St Cadwaladr Church
The church at Llangadwaladr, an ancient foundation, is dedicated to St Cadwaladr, aka Cadwaladr the Blessed, aka King Cadwaladr, the last monarch of the Isle of Britain, who died around 664 CE. The present church, dating from the medieval period, had close connections with the House of Gwynedd and later with the noble families of the Owens of Bodowen and the Meyricks (ap Meurig) of Bodorgan Hall.

The middle window is that of the chancel. The two chapels on either side of the chancel are (furthest away) the family chapel of the Meyricks of Bodorgan Hall Image and (nearest the camera) the family chapel of the Owens of Bodowen Image The Meyrick chapel dates from the 1640s, that of their sworn enemies, the Owens, dates from 1661. Each contain memorials to the members of its respective family. The tall Celtic Cross, in the cemetery (right), is a Meyrick memorial.

The porch and south chapel of Eglwys St Cadwaladr
The ornate south chapel is a fairly recent addition to the church. It was built to celebrate the restoration of the monarchy in 1661 and incorporated all the features most hated by the iconoclastic Cromwellians. The building was paid for by monies left in the will of Colonel Hugh Owen of Bodowen, a colonel in the Royalist army who died in 1659.

St Cuthbert's church, Llangadwaladr
All previous photos of this church call it "St Cadwaladr's church". However the signs, both on the main road (the A4080) and at the church itself, refer to it as "St Cuthbert's". I would be happy to amend this description in the light of better information - but in the context of the site I think it necessary to explain the two different names.
