Yacht Park at Gallows Point
Gallows Point was for centuries the site of public executions. One of the most famous executions was of a priest of the penal times, Fr William Davies, in 1593. The execution had to be postponed four times because no hangman could be found in Wales for love or money. In the end a Chester butcher and his mate were smuggled in to do the work for the sum of 40 shillings. There are now controversial plans to build a marina at Gallows Point.
