A double version of the Type G postbox, a shortlived square design introduced in the 1970s, where the two boxes have a single overall top. The box occupies a busy position on the High Street, in the heart of the city.

Bangor: the clock tower
Occupying a dominant position on the High Street, the clock tower was presented to the city by its mayor, Alderman Thomas Lewis, in 1886-7 "as a token of his interest in the welfare of the city", according to the plaque on the east-facing side. (See Image for a view of the plaque).

The plaque, on the side of the Image, explains that it was: "Erected and presented to the city of Bangor by Alderman Thomas Lewis, JP, Garth'erwen, during his mayoralty, as a token of his interest in the welfare of the city. 1886-7" Any explanations of what "Garth'erwen" means?
