Maes Padarn Estate, Llanberis
This is the newer part of Llanberis, the Maes Padarn estate being a post World War II development. During the war the site was occupied by an army camp, initially a mountain training school for Commandos, but later a base for the Polish Army in exile. A number of local girls married Poles, some then emigrating to Canada. After the disbandment of the Polish Army, local squatters, mainly homeless young married couples and their families, took over the camp. The village police and fire stations are located on the site.
