Former Small holdings on the Bwlch Ucha' Road
These were small holdings created in the early 19th century for and by quarrymen. Such small holdings provided the quarryman-farmer with a degree of security during periodic down turns in the slate market. By the mid-twentieth century, such units were hopelessly uneconomic, and the owners, the Faenol Estate, transferred most of the land to adjacent farms. When the estate was broken up in the mid-1960s, many of the cottages were sold at auction. The majority were brought by outside interests.
