Sir Llewelyn Turner 1823 - 1903, Caernarfon
Sir Llewelyn Turner was born at Parkia in Criccieth on the 11th February 1823, to William Turner a former High Sheriff of Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire. He became a very prominent figure in the municipal life of Caernarfon town. In 1847 he established the Royal Welsh Yacht Club, which still flourishes to this day. He was the Mayor and Chief Magistrate of Caernarfon between 1859 & 1870, during which time he was instrumental in providing Caernarfon with a new water system following a cholera epidemic in 1867. He was the Deputy Constable of Caernarfon Castle between 1870 & 1903. He instigated the restoration of the then ruinous castle during his term of office. Between 1859 and 1890 he was also the Chairman of the Caernarfon Harbour Trust and was a key player in the development of the harbour and Victoria dock. He became the High Sheriff of Caernarfonshire in 1886. The full text of the plaque reads: CAERNARVON[SIC] CIVIL SOCIETY SIR LLEWELYN TURNER 1823 - 1903 Gŵr Blaen ym mhob diwygiad Trefol (Man at the fore of every town improvement)

Mural, Caernarfon
This mural, Helter Skelter, about Caernarfon town life was painted by Ed Povey in 1979 to celebrate the National Eisteddfod coming to Caernarfon. It has recently been offered for sale on eBay by the owners of the shop on which it is painted. It can be seen on the building next to the Library on Bangor Street.

The Liberal Club in Bangor Street
A relict of the time when the Caernarfon Boroughs were represented in parliament by David Lloyd-George. The building now houses a firm of solicitors and a number of apartments. The colourful building bottom left is 'Stiwdio Haul', a 'tanning' centre.
