Llanwnda: the Welsh Highland Railway at Dinas
The diminutive ‘Prince’, the world’s oldest working steam locomotive, built in 1863, passes the bulk of articulated Beyer Garratt 143 built in Manchester for use in South Africa in the 1950s and subsequently returned to Britain and restored for use on the Welsh Highland. In 2005 trains run between Caernarfon and Rhyd-Ddu, where there is a footpath to Snowdon

The railway construction materials storage yard at Dinas Station
Work on the restoration of the Welsh Highland Railway continues to the south of Beddgelert. Construction materials are stored here at Dinas which is the lines' current engineering depot. The fuel tank for the oil-fired trains can be seen on the right.

Dinas Station
Dinas was first opened in 1877 as the junction between the standard gauge Caernarfon - Afon Wen line and the narrow gauge Welsh Highland route to Porthmadog. The Welsh Highland closed in the 1930s, Dinas Station in 1951, and the line through it in 1964. Trains returned in 1997 and the station is now an intermediate stop on the revitalised Welsh Highland Railway between Caernarfon and Hafod-y-Llyn (in due course to be extended to Porthmadog). The railway's offices and works are located here.

One of two NG15 class of 2-8-2 locomotives used on the 60cm gauge lines of South African Railways. This is NG15 Locomotive №134 which is now subject to a long term restoration project by the Welsh Highland Railway (WHR).
