The Harp Hotel, Llandwrog
The Harp Hotel was built in the 1830's as part of the replanning of Llandwrog as an estate village, but thought to include part of an earlier building.

Ty'n Llan (Harp Inn) and former inn stables
The Harp dates from the mid-19th century, but an ale house called Ty'n Llan has been on the site for many centuries. Most Welsh Anglican churches had their accompanying Tyn Llan (=homestead in the church enclosure) and part of the ale house profits came the way of the vicar. The rise of dour Calvinism in the late 18th century led to the demise of the close association of church and inn.

Tafarn Ty'n Llan Llandwrog Harp Hotel
Ty'n Llan is a common name for the farm next to the church, which is presumably what was on the site before the inn was built in the nineteenth century.

Eat and sup - but beware of the snare of the demon drink
This plaque on the Harp Inn is paternalistic advice to the locals from the owner, Lord Newborough, in the form of Welsh verse commissioned from Eben Fardd (Eben the Bard), an impoverished, dyed in the wool Calvinist, school master of Clynnog - real name Ebenezer Thomas (1802-1863)- who was regarded as the foremost poet of his day. A rather limp English translation by WC is carved beneath it. http://yba.llgc.org.uk/en/s-THOM-EBE-1802.html
