Vandalised memorial plaque for the polyglot Dic Aberdaron
The wording on the plaque states that Dic's home, Cae'r eos, was nearby. Richard Robert Jones (1780-1843) was a tramp who had little formal education but who had taught himself 14 languages, both ancient and modern. Dic wandered the highways and byways between Aberdaron and Liverpool, his pockets filled with dictionaries, usually followed by a cat, and was in practise of announcing his arrival at a town or a village with a loud blast on a trumpet. Dic was not a man to cross, he had it was said the ability to summon spirits from the depths of Hell. http://www.penllyn.com/1/Hanes/daron/pics/dic%20aberdaron.htm. https://www.peoplescollection.wales/items/1484 Image]
