Former Bryncroes School - now the Community Centre
Information provided by Alan Fryer: The former Bryncroes school was the scene of vigorous protests between 1969 and 1972 when Caernarfonshire County Council proposed to close down this Welsh-medium school. The protests were in vain and the school became a Community Centre. see http://www.penllyn.com/1/Hanes/bryncroes/ysgol.htm

Hen Ysgol Bryncroes former school
Bryncroes primary school was closed by the authorities in May 1970. This pre-announced decision led to a 4 years of defiant protest (1969-72), news of which month after month dominated the Welsh press. The parents had reacted to the closure by setting up an independent school which was initially housed in the church hall, and eventually, after a forcing their way in, at the old school itself. In the end, only heavy handed law enforcement and the threat of prison led to the collapse of the protest movement in 1972. Later the building was converted into a community centre. http://gwynedd.biz/fforwm/hanes2.htm
