Salem Independent (Congregational) Chapel, High Street
This was built in 1860. The architect, the Rev. Thomas Thomas was much taken by an arch he saw in the Catholic church of San Andreas in Mantua and soon began to incorporate it into his designs for Welsh chapels. Salem was one of the earliest examples. This type of arch became very popular in Wales where it was known as a "halo arch".
