Tamping on the narrow gauge
A tamping machine is used to fettle newly laid track between Minffordd and Boston Lodge, viewed from the A497 road. Purchased in 2005 for use during the rebuilding of the Welsh Highland Railway, the tamper was originally used in French coal mines and built to the metre gauge. It was re-gauged for use on the WHR/Ffestiniog lines in Boston Lodge works.

I don't know the history, but it has featured in children's games and served as a Maypole in the past.

Seen from the bridleway which links the village of Portmeirion with Boston Lodge, on the edge of Minffordd. Boston Lodge lies just out of picture, to the left. As always, the sun shines in Wales.
