North end of Barmouth station
Looking north, towards Pwllheli, along platform 2 of Barmouth railway station. The northern ends of the platforms are currently largely disused, as they are far longer than the trains that normally use them. Their length reflects the town's popularity as a holiday destination, which once brought very long trains to the town, Barmouth being unusual in its ability to accommodate such trains at its platforms. I remember travelling to and from holidays in nearby Fairbourne on 11 or 12 coach trains on summer Saturdays, which had to stop there twice or three times in order to provide access to all of the coaches.

An Arriva train arriving at Barmouth
Heading for Birmingham International. The long, somewhat overgrown, platforms are a reminder of busier railway times at Barmouth with loaded full length holiday trains arriving. Now, the longest trains stopping here are of four carriages, but are usually just two. Cambrian unit 158823
