Pay your way? - Barmouth Bridge, Gwynedd
Not any more at least at present. In 2013 the couple who acted as toll collectors retired and Gwynedd County Council did not replace them, as it was thought uneconomic to do so. Bridge repairs were carried out in 1985-86 after an attack on the structure by the teredo marine worm but in the current economic climate, with Gwynedd County Council having to find £9 million worth of cuts to spending, the future of the bridge and access to it for walkers and cyclists is uncertain. Time taken 12.55 pm BST (British Summer Time).

Future uncertain - Barmouth Bridge, Gwynedd
Tolls were once charged to walkers and cyclists using the Barmouth Bridge across the Mawddach estuary until the retirement in 2013 of the couple who acted as toll collectors. The future of the cycle/walkway is now in doubt if arrangements cannot be made for its future funding to cover the annual payment by Gwynedd County Council to Network Rail for its maintenance. Time taken 2.55 pm BST (British Summer Time).

T(r)oll house on Barmouth Bridge
Barmouth Bridge carries the Cambrian Coast railway line across the estuary of Afon Mawddach. Alongside the railway line is a path open to pedestrians and cyclists. There used to be a toll to cross the bridge, but this is no longer collected. Instead of paying the toll, people crossing the bridge are instead asked to "pay the troll".
The path across the bridge forms part of the Mawddach Trail, Cross Britain Trail and Wales Coast Path, and is also on route 8 of the National Cycle Network.
