Sign for the Halfway House, Bontddu
The Halfway House Inn or Tavern is a quite numerous sign and the meaning obvious. The situation is half-way between two towns on a main route, though many are now meaningless due to a changing road system.

Bontddu Hall
Built in 1873, Bontddu Hall is a Victorian country mansion with 3 acres of gardens, woodland and rhododendron forest with views of Cader Idris mountain range and the Mawddach River. This was once the country retreat of the Lord Mayor of Birmingham and Richard Burton stayed here when he was making his 1949 film debut, The Last Days of Dolwyn, with Emlyn Williams.

Bontddu Hall
Closed as an exclusive hotel in 2004 and became a private residence. Sadly, it was severely damaged by a fire in 2020 in which the wife of the owner died. It was then placed on the market for a sum just shy of £1m. Viewed here across Afon Mawddach.
