This a male, the female is a brown bird with blackish crown, buff face and grey brown barred tail feathers. It also apparently sports the longest natural tail feather of any bird species.

Amanita muscaria
Commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, it associates with various deciduous and coniferous trees and these were found on a nature trail through such woodland. Although it is generally considered poisonous, reports of human deaths resulting from eating the mushroom are extremely rare. After parboiling — which removes the mushroom's psychoactive substances—it is eaten in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. (This paragraph is an extract from Wikipedia.)
