Beach with warning
The beach below the steep bank of glacial till (boulder clay) is not very hospitable as it is a mass of loose, rounded cobbles and boulders, many of them natural while others are the eroded remains of material dumped to lessen the destructive power of the waves. The image was taken at the foot of wooden steps leading a footpath to the shore, but to the north of this point there is no escape from the tide as the bank of till gives way to steep rock slopes.

Cobble beach
This section of the beach is not hospitable. Large, loose cobbles and boulders make progress almost impossible. Dotted along the beach platform there are larger boulders, probably glacial erratics. However, given the long history of placing rock armour along the shore that is not certain. In this area the coincidence of glacially-derived limestone clasts with modern production from quarries in the same outcrops makes the whole business very confused. In the distance the Rhyl Flats turbine farm can be seen on this bright day.
