Tal-y-cafn and Eglwysbach station
The station is at Tal-y-cafn and of several other (and larger) settlements nearby, Eglwysbach is possibly the biggest (and has a church) but by no means the nearest. The station is the nearest to Bodnant Garden, probably the most significant tourist attraction that it serves. The display board was telling me that the next train was "on time", but, given it wasn't due for well over an hour and a half, and quite possibly hadn't even set off yet, that seemed to indicate a considerable degree of overconfidence.

Tal y Cafn Control !
A view of Tal y Cafn station ground frame in 1991. It controlled a distant signal each way and a bolt for the level crossing gates which was locked by the signal levers. It was finally abolished in 1993 following an incident when a train ploughed through the gates.
