The third wicket partnership we were witnessing ended in a record 501 stand for Lancashire completed the following day. Number 3, Peterson, reached 286 whilst number 4, Prince, 261. The fourth highest 3rd wicket partnership in First Class cricket and a record for Lancashire.

Pity neither qualify to play for England who lost the 2nd Test to Australia by 405 runs on the same day. Their partnership was eventually 501 which is the fourth highest 3rd wicket partnership in First Class cricket.
