This shows part of the Dee valley, with an approaching steam-hauled train. This has come from Llangollen and will continue west as far as the temporary platform at Corwen East.

Unusual visitor to the Dee valley, Llangollen Railway
LNER D49 class 4-4-0 'Morayshire' https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/62712-morayshire-lner-246-lner-2712-br-62712/ is in the care of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society and based on their line at Bo’ness so its appearance on a Welsh rural line is an unusual event. It is seen here approaching Glyndyfrdwy with a goods train during the Llangollen Railway's 9-day Spring Gala in 2009.

GWR 'Dukedog' on local passenger train in the Dee valley, Llangollen Railway
GWR 4-4-0 9017 heads a short passenger train along the Dee valley, about ½ mile before Glyndyfrdwy. 9017 https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/9017-earl-of-berkeley-gwr-3217-9017-3217/ is based at the Bluebell Railway in Sussex but looks entirely at home here. The rural cross-country lines of mid-Wales were home to many 'Dukedogs' until the withdrawal of the last two, 9014 & 9017, in October 1960. 9017 was a visitor at the Llangollen Railway's 9-day Spring Gala in 2009 and so after almost 50 years a 'Dukedog' could once again be seen in a Welsh valley.

Goods train rounds the Ty Newydd curve, Llangollen Railway
The Ty Newydd curve, about ½ mile east of Glyndyfrdwy Station, is a favourite spot for railway photographers. Here GWR Pannier 1638 https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/1638-2/ , normally based at the Kent & East Sussex Railway but visiting for the 2014 Spring Gala, heads a very short demonstration goods train westwards.

A GWR Mogul returns to the Dee valley line, Llangollen Railway
GWR 2-6-0 5322 on the Ty Newydd curve, ½ mile from Glyndyfrdwy, with the 11.30 from Llangollen. GWR Moguls were once an everyday sight on Welsh rural lines but sadly no longer. 5322, normally based at Didcot Railway Centre, was visiting for the 2014 Spring Gala - its only visit to the line (so far).
