Up local freight near Croes Newydd Junctions, Wrexham
View northwards, towards Wrexham (Exchange) and Chester; ex-GW Birmingham - Shrewsbury - Chester main line. The Yards and Depot at Croes Newydd dealt with the traffic off the several industrial and colliery branches near Wrexham. Here 'modern' GW '1600' class 0-6-0T No. 1660 (built 2/55, withdrawn 2/66) brings a goods along the Up Slow line at Croes Newydd South Junction.

Up freight at Croes Newydd Junction, Wrexham, 1966
View NE towards Wrexham (General) and Chester, on the ex-GWR Chester - Shrewsbury - Birmingham etc. main line. By 1966 this had become a BR(LMR) line and almost all ex-GWR locomotives had been ousted by LMSR or BR Standard types, such as this Stanier Class 5 4-6-0, No. 45198 (built 10/35, withdrawn 9/67).
