This was placed above number 2 shaft in 1930 following a fire which destroyed the earlier wooden structure.
Originally from the nearby Gatewen Colliery.
Restored with the help of Heritage Lottery Funding.

Colliery Headgear, Bersham
The large metal structure shown at the centre is called the Headgear. Now restored, it came from nearby Gatewen Colliery. The headgear was brought to Bersham Colliery for the No.2 Shaft in 1930 after a fire destroyed the former timber-built structure.

In the background hydraulic roof supports for the coal seams.
Each piece of mining equipment had to be squeezed into a small lift cage and reconstructed below the surface.
