Rivet bench mark on old milestone in Caergwrle High Street
This bench mark, which is recorded on the O.S. maps as early as 1879, is on the top of an old milestone that once read 'Mold 6 Wrexham 5'. Today the milestone is illegible, and the bench mark is no longer recorded on the O.S database.

Ye Olde Castle
Public house in Caergwrle in the shadow of Caergwrle Castle. But why does it have to be "Ye olde"? The expression is a pseudo-medieval English expression which only dates from the mid-19th century. The "-e" on the end of the "olde" is totally spurious. And as for "ye", the "y" is a mis-representation of the letter "thorn" denoted by þ (a hard "th") a letter still used in Icelandic but which has long-since disappeared from any form of the English alphabet.
