Kent Road bus shelter and telecoms cabinet near the site of the Lodge Village near Wrexham
The information poster on the bus shelter records that the bus stop stands now in what used to be a large thriving community. During the 1960s there were nine shops open for business nearby ranging from groceries to hardware to footwear to fish & chips. Most children attended either Black Lane School or Brymbo Church School. The hub of the Lodge Village was the Post Office run by Mrs Ruth Marshall. The village had grown because of the need to house workers at a nearby steelworks. During the 1960s the steelworks grew larger and required land on which some of Lodge Village stood. Compulsory purchase orders were put in place. Families moved to adjoining villages such as Brymbo, Southsea, New Broughton.
