Abbey Pumping Station - narrow gauge railway.
Track for a narrow gauge railway at this museum site was laid in the early 1980s, this followed the layout of a previous railway. Manned by volunteers, the railway gives rides to the public on special event days - like today. Trains are usually hauled by Bagnall 'Leonard' 0-4-0ST built in 1919 also available are four industrial diesel locomotives.

Abbey Pumping Station - railway
The site's steam locomotive needs a retube, so the railway is using this diesel 'Simplex' locomotive to haul the rolling stock.

Abbey Pumping Station - frying tonight
The Leicester Museum of Technology's superbly restored coal-fired mobile fish and chip van. This was doing a roaring trade although we didn't sample the wares. To the best of my knowledge this is the only working example of its type.

Abbey Pumping Station - four at once!
All four of the site's 1891 Gimson beam engines can be seen in steam simultaneously to celebrate 50 years since the site closed as a working sewage pumping station. This was a special 'one-off' weekend event requiring a large hired in boiler to provide sufficient steam for a 5 hour run on the Sunday.
