Market Harborough: The United Reformed Church
The United Reformed Church was built in 1844 as an Independent Chapel to the designs of the architect William Flint of Leicester. It is located on the High Street at the Bowden Lane junction, the latter leading off to the left in this photograph. It is a Grade II* Listed Building and the English Heritage website describes it thus:-
"Gault brick with stone dressings and rusticated quoins. Painted modillion cornice and parapet with centre panel crowned by moulded scroll ornament and inscribed "Independent Chapel". 2 storeys. 5 windows, the centre 3 uppers divided by engaged Corinthian columns and flanked by Corinthian pilasters. Round-arched windows. Ground floor ham tetrastyle portico with Greek Ionic columns in antis. 6 stone steps. Painted entablature above with dentil cornice. Ground floor windows have shaped frames and pediments. All windows, sashes with glazing bars and moulded painted architraves. Facade to Bowden Lane, 6 windows, those of 1st floor round-arched with band between floors and at 1st floor impost height."

Five listed buildings on Leicester Road
9-11. Grade II listed. Listing number 1074393. Early C19 block, designed as a whole. Red brick. 3 storeys. 3 windows with fluted keystones. Central canted ground floor bay with small cornice. Windows, sashes with glazing bars. No 9 has a round-headed doorcase with panelled blind fanlight and 6-panel door. No 10 has a 6-panel door inset in narrow reeded wood case with rectangular fanlight and open dentil pediment. No 11 has similar doorcase with panelled and reeded pilasters and reeded brackets. Side facade has some geometric designs in dark headers.
8. Grade II listed. Listing number 1074392. Early C19. Red brick house. Slate roof. 3 storeys. 2 windows, sashes with glazing bars. Ground floor has 2 small canted bay windows. Doorcase with hood, pilasters and reeded brackets. Carriageway entrance at south side - carriageway doors with cambered head linings
7. Grade II listed. Listing number 1074391. Late C18 architectural features but possibly not built until earlier C19. Red brick. Roof not visible. Symmetrical design. 2 storeys. 3 windows, sashes with glazing bars. Central door with good rectangular fanlight and narrow panelled wooden doorcase with hood on brackets and transverse reeding to brackets. Passage entry at side.
6. Grade II listed. Listing number 1074390. Late C18/early C19. Red brick with slate roof. 3 storeys. 2 windows sashes with glazing bars, those on 1st floor with boxed frames and cambered head linings. North side of ground floor has canted bay with cornice and glazing bars. Door with cambered head lining and additional side entrance to rear at south side.
4-5. Grade II listed. Listing number 1074389. Early C19. Red brick with slate roof. One building. 3 storeys. 3 windows, sashes with glazing bars and gauged flat red brick arches. Ground floor has canted bay with cornice and glazing bars at north side.
