Crossing Burley Way
The footpath carrying the Macmillan Way crosses Burley Way, a bypass round Oakham, and enters modern housing estate. This is clearly an old footpath route which has been upgraded. It is one of the few places on the Macmillan Way coast to coast path from Lincolnshire to Dorset where the walker is walking through suburban streets.

Oakham's new(ish) bypass
A 3 mile eastern bypass completed in 2007. With several roundabouts, and quite slow, many feel it is quicker to travel through the centre of Oakham as before. The bypass does, however, provide access to a large area of new housing development. The Hereward Way crosses the road at the fingerpost.
