Hudson's Cottage
This would be of interest simply as being a largely unspoilt 17th century thatched cottage. It is however reputedly the home of Jeffrey Hudson, who was known as 'the smallest man from the smallest county in England'. For a long time he never grew taller than 18 inches and for a time was a page to Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of Charles I. The cottage is Listed Grade II.

Look harder for the writing on the wall
Faded writing on the side wall of 38 High Street Oakham (Shanghia take away) Ignore the Private no Access sign. The faded painted sign points to a grocery shop being here. The words are not all clear but the legible ones are, D E Clarke Grocer Digestive Refreshing & Lasting The lower words probably allude to a tonic or mineral water.
