Elms Road, Melton Mowbray
Built in the 1930s these houses had beautiful curved glass panes at the edges of the bays, (see the curve of the window surround). As PVC replacement windows became the fashion during the 1970s and 1980s these were replaced by flat panes of glass. Thus the houses in three streets here have lost their original character. See Image for example of similar houses in London that have been saved from this fate.
However, right in the centre of town, these houses are in the perfect setting for a bit of retail therapy.

Melton Mowbray Victorian Christmas Fayre (3)
Father Christmas travelling down Sherrard Street in his reindeer decorated tractor drawn "sleigh".
Melton's Victorian Christmas Fayre, held on the 1st Sunday in December, has become a regular feature of the festive season. The whole of the town centre is given over to market stalls selling all sorts of crafts and gift items with a range of street catering and street entertainment. Fancy dress is optional with many official participants and visitors alike joining in the fun.
