LNWR boundary marker, Bolton-le-Sands
London & North Western Railway boundary marker, about 500m from the railway line, but close to the canal.
It presumably dates from the time that the Lancaster Canal was the property of the LNWR. The LNWR was formed in 1846 and existed until the railways were grouped in 1923.

Excursion train at Bolton-le-Sands
It could be the late 1960s, except that was before this line was electrified. Privately owned class 86 electric locomotive, 86259 / E3137 Les Ross / Peter Pan, hauls the Cumbrian Mountain Express from Euston to Carnforth. It was then replaced by a steam locomotive (45699 Galatea) with diesel assistance (to reduce the fire risk) before continuing to Carlisle. See http://www.86259lesross.com/
