St James's Church, Arnside
Pevsner states that the church was built in 1864-6 and extended 3 times. The most recent extension was by Austin & Paley in 1912-4. This view of the west end does not show any of the original building.

Arnside Youth Hostel
This splendid black-and-white building on Church Hill - changed very little in outward appearance after 40+ years - was the village's Youth Hostel in 1970. The green triangular YHA sign may be seen affixed to the corner of the first-floor bay window on the left side. Since then the Hostel has moved twice and currently occupies a building on Redhills Road.

Sign for Ye Olde Fighting Cocks
Cock-fighting was introduced to Britain by the Romans and was prohibited in some counties by 1653. It remained popular, however, until sterner measures against it were taken in the mid-nineteenth century. The birds were specially bred and equipped with steel spurs, while large sums of money were wagered on the outcome of the fights.
Henry VIII and James I are said to have been royal admirers of cock-fights.
