False silo
The silo houses a mobile phone base station. Someone obviously believes this is more aesthetic than a mast. The railway line was originally double track and was used as a test bed for AC overhead electrification. It closed to passengers in 1966, but now carries 2 return trains a day to Heysham for the Isle of Man ferry. It also serves Heysham power station.
