LED'ing the way
Lancaster City Council is replacing many of its sodium vapour street lights with LEDs (light emitting diodes). To date, they are restricted to residential streets and footpaths. The LED's are claimed to be more efficient, and require less maintenance. Being white, the light from the LEDs is much more attractive, but the spread (with the type used here) is not as wide.
