Former Hartleys Brewery, Ulverston
This is part of the Old Brewery and there is a plaque below the oriel window. Also note the barrel motif on the keystone. The plaque states that brewing commenced here in 1755. On 17th July 1896 the brewery was conveyed to Robert and Peter Hartley and on 29th December 1919 Hartleys (Ulverston) Ltd was incorporated. In 1982 the company was acquired by Frederic Robinson Ltd of Stockport and brewing ceased in 1991. Brewing had been carried out on this site for 236 years. It had been derelict ever since and by 2017 was beginning to look somewhat rough. I managed to photograph the exterior of the site from several angles. I understand that in 2020 work has commenced on the site's conversion.
