Ashton Memorial, Williamson Park, Lancaster
Dating from 1905-1909, the mainly Portland stone Ashton Memorial was commissioned by Lancaster industrialist Lord Ashton as a tribute to his late wife Jessy. The dome is copper and the steps are granite. It is 150 feet in height, and built in an elevated position in an Edwardian Baroque style. The Memorial dominates the Lancaster skyline and is visible for many miles around. It was damaged by fire in 1962, restored in 1985-1987 and is a Grade I listed building. https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101288429-ashton-memorial-lancaster#.W8DjxvZFweE
