Liverpool: View 146, Conway Street, L5
These two 1960s tower blocks were formerly owned by private landlord Landmark Liverpool Ltd and during the 1990s they were used to house asylum-seekers. In July 2002 the blocks were acquired by LPC Ltd (short for Legendary Property Company) and became the subject of a £9 million refurbishment, whereby the layout of each floor was re-designed to provide 146 apartments (hence the name View 146). The apartments were then sold at prices intended to attract key workers, first time buyers and young professionals. The blocks now have their own gated compound offering secure parking. However the increasing value of the apartments has allegedly priced them out of reach of local residents and this, coupled with the restricted access, has prompted some residents to allegedly express fears of a divided community.
