Disused railway bridge over A580
This iron girder bridge now carries a long distance footpath/cycleway over the busy A580. The double roundabouts beneath it are a nightmare for the learner drivers taking their tests at the nearby driving test centre.

Former Townsend Avenue railway bridge
The reason for this substantial structure is that the railway crossed the dual carriageway Townsend Avenue at this point on a highly skewed alignment. Therefore a deep truss bridge that contains the stresses within itself would have been preferable to a traditional arch. See Image for a side view.

The Liverpool Loop Line crosses Townsend Avenue
The Loop Line is a popular traffic free, wildlife route running from Halewood to Aintree and on to Southport on the Cheshire lines path. This fabulous walking and cycling route follows the old railway line.
