Ormskirk Market
A market has been held at Ormskirk since 1286 when monks at nearby Burscough Priory were granted a Royal Charter by Edward I. Nowadays Ormskirk’s Charter Market takes place each Thursday and Saturday. The location was originally the junction of the main roads to Preston, Liverpool and Wigan, and was marked by a market cross until it was replaced by the current clock tower in the nineteenth century. The tower, also known as “The Cross” was built in 1876; it is a Grade II listed building (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-386364-clock-tower-lancashire British Listed Buildings).

Hardly pedestrianised: Church Street, Ormskirk
Despite various No Entry and No Parking signs, Church Street, one of the main shopping streets in the town, is invariably crowded with parked cars and vans.
