Ormskirk station
Ormskirk is a strange station. It has one long platform, with the rails along it divided by a buffer stop so that through working by train is not possible. From the southern half of the platform, electric trains, like the Class 507 unit shown here, depart for Liverpool, of which Ormskirk is rapidly becoming a better-class suburb. The Class 507 units were originally intended for the Southern Region of British Railways, but did not stay there long before they migrated to Merseyside.

See Image The northern half of Ormskirk's single platform has diesel trains such as this Class 153 unit, which run to Preston: sadly no connection is made at Burscough with trains to Wigan or Southport.

Looking north. The buffers separate the line in two, trains running south towards Liverpool or north towards Preston.

Ormskirk Station
Ormskirk has an unusual layout with one long platform used by Merseyrail services to Liverpool and Northern trains to Preston - but there is no physical connection between the two. In this view a Merseyrail service is in the foreground and a train to Preston can be seen in the process of departing further along.
