Freshfield Dune Slack Heath
English Nature have raised some controversy over this area. Dune Slack Heath is a very rare habitat and this area was starting to be invaded by trees. By chopping some of the trees down the best areas of heath were saved. However some people saw the removal of healthy trees as unnecessary damage.

Freshfield Dune Heath
Path at the entrance to Freshfield dune heath in autumn, trees and gorse now starting to take over this rare environment. Only small fragments of dune heath remain on the Sefton Coast along the edge of the airfield and golf courses.
