St Helena's, Roby Road, Huyton
This lovely 19th century villa, originally called Yewtree,is on Roby Road and would have been built for a rich merchant requiring a country residence within easy reach of Liverpool. It became a hall of residence for students in the 20th century and is now a residential home.

Northern Rail Class 156, 156483, Huyton railway station
The train departs from Huyton with a service to Liverpool. To the right-hand side is Huyton signal box. Some of the station redevelopment, and relaying of track, can be seen behind the signal box. This is in preparation for the electrification of the line, in 2014. With electrification, the station is to regain the use of two platforms, which had been closed to the public since the 1970s.

Huyton Station - redundant platform 4, about 1970
A decade previously the early morning newspaper train called here (often with 42606 at the head) with papers for Barlow's newsagents - it was a special treat to be put on collection duties instead of the usual newspaper round.

Huyton Station about 1970 - goods yard off platform 1
This small goods yard occasionally saw a LNWR G2a shunting up to about 1960. The red-brick toilet block was built about the time of the photograph (about 1970) to replace one on the redundant platform 4, but it was soon padlocked out of use.

Huyton Station about 1970 - commuters' train
A DMU disgorges a heavy load of passengers from Lime Street at just after 5pm. Huyton Station was inconceivably posted for closure by Dr Beeching; it is now a very busy station, with an excellent and frequent local service.
