A Thing in Liverpool, 1988
There were several of these around the streets at the time, all empty - I supposed they were intended to hold floral displays. This one stood near the bell tower of the Metropolitan Cathedral (in its pre-approach-steps days).

This bench mark is on the base of a pillar at the front of the Liverpool Medical Institution, which was founded in 1836 http://www.lmi.org.uk/ . The mark seems to have been slightly damaged along the datum line. See also Image

Medical Institution, Mount Pleasant, Liverpool
Almost a quadrant-shaped plan, the front dominated by a hexastyle Ionic portico. Most of the facade has horizontal rustication. All in all, an original and distinctive composition, built 1835-37 to the designs of Clark Rampling. Grade II* listed. It is still occupied by the Liverpool Medical Institution, which includes a library, conference centre and lecture theatres.

Liverpool Medical Institute and the 'everyman' 2009
Looking across the junction of Mount Pleasant and Hope Street towards the Liverpool Medical Institute http://www.lmi.org.uk/ On its right, in Hope Street, is the Everyman Theatre, which was de-constructed in 2011 and then rebuilt using approximately 90% of the original materials. On 16th October 2014, against some very strong opposition, the rebuilt Everyman Theatre won the RIBA Stirling Prize 2014 http://www.everymanplayhouse.com/

Philharmonic Hall Liverpool
To my mind this is rather austere given the surrounding buildings. It is not the original concert hall on the present site; its predecessor was destroyed by fire in 1933 and the present hall was opened in 1939
