"The Rocket" at Rainhill
A public house with a name that recognises the significance of Rainhill in the history of railways. It was in this little town in 1829 that Stephenson's "The Rocket" steam train was first seen by the public during The Rainhill Trials.

Warrington Road, Rainhill
Shops at the junction of Warrington Road (A57) with Rainhill Road. Photo taken from the "Skew Bridge" built by George Stephenson (of Rocket fame), which was opened in 1830 and carries the Warrington Road across the railway line near the station. This bridge was the first in the world to cross a railway line at an angle, it is now a listed building
